Holiday Sewing: Petal Pillow

Happy New Year!  The holidays may be over, but I still have a few Christmas projects left to share.  I made this for my mom, lover of fancy throw pillows:

It may look complicated, but is actually ridiculously easy to make.  I traced and cut all of the petals while watching A Christmas Story, and sewed everything together while watching Escape to Witch Mountain and Gigi (wow.  what a weird combination of movies.). The tutorial is from Cluck Cluck Sew.  She has a few more pillow tutorials that I am dying to try out!  My original plan was to make a pillow cover from Kayte Terry's lovely book, Applique Your Way.  Unfortunately, I can't find my copy anywhere!  Yes, the sewing room/guest villa is that much of a disaster.  No, I will not post photos.  Anyway, I LOVE the way this turned out.  I want to make about 50 of them.  My pillow form was a little smaller than the tutorial called for, so I sized the petals down accordingly.  I *think* I went crazy with the number of petals, though.  I will probably space them out a bit more the next time.  My mom really liked it, and that's what counts.

  2. Okay first of all, this pillow is awesome. Secondly, I thought I was the only one that measured effort in the amount of movies it takes to make something. (Current baby afghan: One million and six movies), and Thirdly: You use the same movies I do! Ahhh. I love your blog.

  4. Christa - I can't sell them, as the pattern is for personal use only (Allison, the first commenter, is the designer). However, I would be happy to help YOU make one! :)

Roxanne - Nope, never too early!!
