Hooray! I am so glad to have finished these. I ended up using this tutoral from Skip to my Lou. They weren't difficult to sew, but the process was very tedious. Even though I am pretty good buddies with my iron, this was a LOT of pressing. Plenty of steam burnt fingers and muffled cursing.
But, I love my mom, and she deserves mitered corners They do look nice. I want to make a bunch of cloth napkins for every day use, but can't imagine going through the whole press-press-trim-press-press process for each corner of every napkin. As a result, this project inspired me to splurge on a little something for my sewing machine. Oh yes, I'm talking about the rolled hem foot. According to the very helpful lady at the Viking shop, this foot should help considerably. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, and I'm told that it takes some practice.
