Pillowcases for ConKerr Cancer

All finished!  I met my goal of 2 pillowcases.  These sewed up a lot faster than I thought they would.  ConKerr Cancer provides great instructions on their website.

A closer look at the fabric.  I tried to choose something an older child might enjoy, since it was mentioned that this group is often overlooked.  Ed thought this one looked kind of Bert and Erinie-esque.

Retro kitchen stuff.  I am really hoping someone will like this one.  I would have gone crazy over this fabric as a pre-teen/teenager, but then again....I was an unusual child.  In an effort to try and use what I already have, all fabric was pulled from my stash.  There is still time to participate in this project for Craft Hope!  The deadline is September 15th.  Don't know how to sew?  You can take a pre-made pillowcase and embellish it with a crocheted edge, embroidery, freezer paper stenciling, whatever you can think of.  Just make it bright and cheerful.

Crafting for good: Craft Hope

I stumbled upon Craft Hope in my search for volunteer opportunities involving sewing. I was able to find lots of projects for knitters and crocheters, and although I do know how, I happen to be the worlds slowest knitter. It would mostly likely take me months to complete one scarf/hat/blanket square/what have you. That's why I was SO happy to find Craft Hope. I could do something good using my specific skill set. I first worked on Project #3, sewing booties and caps to be given to three childrens homes in India.

I managed to finish seven sets of booties:

and sixteen caps:

I completed everything using materials I already had in my fabric stash. The booties required so little fabric that I was able to use bits and pieces from my scrap bag. The final item count for the entire project was AMAZING. You can see for yourself here. So much love and care went into each item. It really warms my heart and makes me so happy to know that craftiness can be used to benefit others.

Their current project is creating sock monkeys for Little Heroes Preschool Burn Camp in California. Please do check it out. I have never actually made a sock monkey before, but hope to complete one or two to send along. I have really been trying to use materials I already have on hand for craft projects, but don't happen to have any stray socks. I did manage to find a few pair with crazy patterns at Marc's for only .69 each, so I don't feel as bad about buying something new. I love Marc's! You never know what you're going to find there. Anyway, please visit Craft Hope, and spread the word.
