The Shred

After reading Candace's post, and re-reading Meg's post, I have decided to start doing the 30 Day Shred again.  I am not a person who loves to exercise, and I usually have to somehow trick myself into working out.

For a while, walking Dottie was enough.  I'm out with her 4 or5 times on an average day, with the number of minutes for each walk varying from 5 minutes to 35 minutes.  I was having my yearly checkup after the first year we had her, and after looking at my chart the doctor said, "Oh!  You've lost a few pou...actually, you've lost several pounds! Then, he stuck a giant gold start next to my name.  Not really on the gold star part, but it sure felt like it.  I lost about 10 pounds during the first year of dog ownership.

Well, slowly but surely,  my body seems to have gotten used to all of that walking.  My weight has creeped up a few pounds.  I don't even think it's enough for anyone else to notice, but it's enough for ME to notice.  I don't want miracles.  I'm not trying to be a model or a bodybuilder or anything like that.  I'm not even hoping for my dress size to decrease into the single digits.  I just want to be healthier, and to be comfortable in the clothes I already have.  Sure, there's one particularly gorgeous green silk dress hanging in my closet that I would love to fit back into by Christmas, but if that doesn't happen I'll still be ok.

I'm going to shoot for waking up a little bit earlier on the days I work and exercising then.  I'll walk Dottie first as a pre-warm-up warm-up.  I'm afraid that if I do The Shred BEFORE I walk Dottie, I will pass out and she won't get walked at all.  I would have a very upset pupper on my hands.  I might try to throw in some time on the elliptical or stationary bike in the evenings here and there.  Our apartment complex has a small workout room, but I hate exercising when other people are in there.

I started today, even though I tried to tell myself that it is Saturday, and shouldn't I just start on Monday?  No excuses!  Let's see how long I can keep this up.
