For those who are unfamiliar with this term, it refers to a project (usually sewing, knitting, or crochet) that has gone awry.  This project frustrates its maker so much that they just want to wad it up and toss it in a corner, never to be seen again.

Friends, my last 2 sewing projects have been wadders.  Sad but true.  The worst part is that there wasn't anything particularly difficult about the projects.  My frustration stems from fit issues.  First, New Look 6114:
Just a simple gray shell. But, this garment suffers from what I like to call '90s fit' (this pattern was published around 1998, I believe). It's big in the shoulders and tight everywhere else.  I ended up letting it out by about 1/2" overall on the sides. Those 2 little tucks in the neckline (held by pins at the moment)? Totally not supposed to be there. I had to put them in in an attempt to make the neckline less baggy.

On to Simplicity 2029:
I really wanted this one to work out without much change to the pattern, but I ended up taking the sides in by 1" over all.  And it's still too big!  I probably should have gone down a size.  The neckline also lays kind of weird.  I might try taking it up in the shoulders a little.

Can these two garments be saved?  Probably.  But, I don't really want to attempt it at the moment.  For now, I need to turn my attention to my project submissions for One Yard Wonders!

  1. i know what you mean. i bit off more than i could chew with a couple projects that i hope i finish one day. good luck to you too finishing these!

  2. ooh! I know the feeling. ... I just wish I had TIME to sew right now. So much going on, and even with the extra daylight hour, I just have too much to do.
