Neighborhood Places - Part Deux

Nerdy nerdy nerdy!
Just kidding.  Books rule!  This is our neighborhood's branch of the Chicago Public Library.  I've been making an effort to read more this year, and having this so close has made it much easier.  Typically I put books on hold, and then just pop in to pick them up when they're ready.  Right now I'm working on The Descendants.

This place has been around for 91 years!  Margie's is a combination ice cream parlor/handmade candy shop.  The first time I stopped by, a very nice older gentleman welcomed me by giving me a tour AND a free turtle (the edible chocolate-pecan-caramel kind, not the reptile kind).  I've been pretty much hooked ever since.

They're known for their GIGANTIC sundaes (you even get your own little pitcher of hot fudge!), but also serve normal sized milkshakes and cones. It tends to get pretty crowded, especially on the weekends, but the wait is totally worth it!

  2. Lora, it was filmed here! In fact, it's being shown in our neighborhood park tomorrow night (the city has free movie nights in many of the parks during the summer)! Ed and I have a movie date :)

  3. The Descendents is based on a book?? I had no idea. I just finished Sea Change and will be moving on to The Family Fang. :)
